What to do next when you spot the early signs of hair loss

Male pattern hair loss is experienced by millions of men in the UK alone, but you don’t need to simply ignore it and hope for the best. There’s no doubt that a full head of hair can breed self-esteem and make you feel more confident. So, if you’ve noticed the areas around your temples thinning or are worried about your receding hairline, here’s what you need to do.

Keep calm

When you notice hair loss for the first time, it can undoubtedly be stressful. That being said, you need to keep calm. If you’ve found some hairs on your pillow or noticed some in the bathtub after a shower, remember that most men lose between 50 and 100 hairs per day, and doing so is perfectly normal. However, if you’ve noticed more pronounced hair loss over a longer period of time, it’s best to check in with a medical professional. Scheduling a quick appointment can rule out any health conditions and is the first step you should take as you look to start hair loss treatment.

Weigh up your choices

If you’re experiencing male pattern hair loss, you’re not alone. Approximately 6.5 million men in the UK suffer from some type of hair loss by the time they reach their sixtieth birthday. But just because it's widespread, it doesn’t mean you need to grin and bear it. There are two scientifically-backed medications you can turn to in order to treat hair loss - Finasteride and Minoxidil.

What is Minoxidil?

Minoxidil is clinically proven to improve blood flow to the scalp, which can stimulate the regrowth of your hair and revitalise dying and damaged hair roots. Treating your hair with Minoxidil couldn’t be simpler, and you just need to apply the solution to the affected areas of your scalp once each day. Within 3-9 months of application, most men start to see the desired effects of Minoxidil.

Begin a hair loss treatment plan

At Sons, our scientifically-backed treatment plans can help to treat male pattern hair loss. Our Non-Prescription Combo Plan is perfect if you’re a two on the Norwood Scale, as it’s ideal for men who are experiencing the early signs of hair loss in the crown area of your scalp. As well as Minoxidil, the plan includes Biotin and DHT-blocking shampoo and is one of our most popular treatments. We’d be delighted to answer any questions you have about any of our treatments, and our physicians can advise on the best course of action for your current circumstances.

The most important thing to remember is not to panic if you notice hair loss. You’re in full control over what to do about it, and there are several solutions out there.
