Can Minoxidil Stop Hair Loss?
Given that so many men in Ireland are affected by male pattern hair loss, it’s no surprise that Minoxidil is grabbing the headlines. Typically used alongside Finasteride, Minoxidil comes as an easy-to-apply topical solution. But does Minoxidil really stop hair loss?
Introducing Minoxidil
Available in several forms, including foam, lotion, and spray, Minoxidil is a clinically proven hair loss treatment. At Sons, we have a 5% topical solution that should be massaged into your scalp each day. The solution is a vasodilator, which dilates the blood vessels in your scalp. This improves blood flow to the affected areas and revitalises dying hair follicles on your scalp. Due to the increase in oxygen to this part of your scalp, you may notice that your hair follicles recover.
How should Minoxidil be used?
Minoxidil comes in a 60ml bottle and is very easy to apply. Apply 1ml from the bottle (around 4-6 pumps) and gently massage it into your crown or temples. You will need to apply the Minoxidil to the affected areas of your scalp once in the morning and then again in the evening. Your scalp must be dry before application, as this enables Minoxidil to get to work properly and reach the hair follicles.
Is Minoxidil effective?
This all sounds great – but is Minoxidil actually effective? For most men, the answer is yes – Minoxidil has been scientifically proven to treat male pattern hair loss. Studies have shown that Minoxidil effectively regrows hair around the vertex (crown) and is most effective when used as a 5% topical solution. Although every man is different, the results of these studies and the various testimonials from our clients speak volumes about Minoxidil’s potential effectiveness.
How can I maximise the results of Minoxidil?
To ensure Minoxidil is working to its full potential, there are several things you can do. The most important one is true for all of our hair loss treatments – consistency. Getting into the routine of applying the Minoxidil solution twice every day is crucial if you want the treatment to work. If you’re struggling to remember, it’s a good idea to do it at the same time as brushing your teeth or any other task you do at the same time each day.
Another thing to consider is that Minoxidil should be applied to the area of your scalp that is thinning or receding. While this might seem like an obvious statement, it’s so important that you identify the areas that require the treatment, including the crown.
While we can’t guarantee that Minoxidil will work all of the time, lots of men successfully treat male pattern hair loss by using the solution. Providing you apply it regularly to the correct areas of your scalp, you should see results within several months of the first application – this may be through a gradual slowing of hair loss or even some hair regrowth and many report a significant improvement in hair quality by using it too.
