In the simplest terms, DHT (dihydrotestosterone) is a male sex hormone that causes hair loss in men.
In scientific terms, DHT is an androgen hormone that is a by-product of testosterone.
Men with a genetic sensitivity to this hormone can experience hair loss as the DHT will bind to their hair follicles, causing them to shrink, which in turn causes the hair itself to shrink and eventually causing the follicle to die off.
This process is known as miniaturisation and can take place over a number of years.
