How to Fix Thinning Hair

How to Fix Thinning Hair

The majority of men can resonate with thinning hair – male pattern baldness affects a significant proportion of the male population at some stage. However, that doesn’t mean you need to grin and bear it. Identifying the early signs of male pattern hair loss makes it much easier to treat. So, here are some ways that you can tell if you have thinning hair and what you can do to try and treat it.

Receding hairline

One of the most obvious signs of thinning hair is a receding hairline, but it can come around quicker than you might have thought. At first, the signs will be small, and you might only notice the hairs around your forehead or temples starting to thin. If you ignore these early signs, your hairline will soon regress into an M-shape.

A good way to keep on top of things is to take some well-lit snaps of your hairline once every few months. This will help you identify any developments in terms of the recession of your hairline. You should also check out the Norwood Scale so you can identify the stage you’re currently at.

Your hair doesn’t hold well

Do you typically style your hair in the same way most days? Whether you’re a fan of the comb-over or a classic quiff, one sign that your hair might be thinning is that it no longer holds as it once did when you style it.

While you might just be having a bad hair day or have recently changed products, the lack of strength in your hair could be an early indication of thinning. Even without products, if your hair sits in a notably different way on your head, it could be another sign that your hair density is changing.

Your hair is falling out

There’s no doubt that seeing hairs on the pillow or in the bathtub can be a worrying sign for any man. But remember, it’s perfectly natural to shed between 50 and 100 hairs every day, as this is part and parcel of the natural hair growth cycle.

However, if you notice a significant amount of hairs on the pillow or in the bathtub when you step out of the shower, it could be a sign that you’re experiencing early signs of male pattern hair loss.

You suffer from sunburn on the scalp

One of the best things about having a thick head of hair is that it protects you from the sun’s rays. However, when your hair starts thinning, you will be more at risk of sunburn. If you’re spending a similar amount of time outside and have noticed that your scalp is red and itchy from sunburn, it might indicate that your hair is thinning. If you spend a significant period of time outdoors, be sure to apply suncream and wear a hat to protect your head from sunburn.
